چکیده

The unusual morphology of LRG J0239−0134 at z =1.062 has been interpreted as a ring galaxy. Here we propose an alternative idea that the ring-like morphology is attributed to a pair of superbubbles driven by the intense starburst in the central region of this galaxy. Supporting evidence for a superbubble model is; 1) the poststarburst nature in the central body suggests that a burst of supernova explosions could occur at least ∼ 10 yr ago, 2) the dark lane seen in the central body suggests that we observe this object from a nearly edge-on view, and, 3) the ring-like morphology is not inconsistent with an idea that it is a pair of superbubbles. All these pieces of evidence for the superbubble model seem circumstantial. However, if this is the case, this galaxy provides an important example of the superwind activity at high redshift. Local Cohomology with Respect to a Cohomologically Complete Intersection Pair of Ideals

Let $(R,fm,k)$ be a local Gorenstein ring of dimension $n$. Let $H_{I,J}^i(R)$ be the  local cohomology with respect to a pair of ideals $I,J$ and $c$ be the $inf{i|H_{I,J}^i(R)neq0}$. A pair of ideals $I, J$ is called cohomologically complete intersection if $H_{I,J}^i(R)=0$ for all $ineq c$. It is shown that, when $H_{I,J}^i(R)=0$ for all $ineq c$, (i) a minimal injective resolution of $H_{I,...

Cosmic homogeneity demonstrated with luminous red galaxies

We test the homogeneity of the Universe at z ∼ 0.3 with the Luminous Red Galaxy (LRG) spectroscopic sample of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. First, the mean number N(R) of LRGs within completely surveyed LRG-centered spheres of comoving radius R is shown to be proportional to R at radii greater than R ∼ 70 h Mpc. The test has the virtue that it does not rely on the assumption that the LRG sample...

The discovery of two new galaxy–galaxy lenses from the SDSS⋆

The gravitational lens configuration where a background galaxy is closely aligned with a foreground galaxy, can provide accurate measurement of the dark matter density profile in the foreground galaxy, free of dynamical assumptions. Currently only three such galaxy–galaxy lenses are known where the lensed source has a confirmed redshift and is reasonably bright at optical wavelengths, and there...

The anisotropic redshift space galaxy correlation function: detection on the BAO Ring

In a series of papers we have recently studied the clustering of LRG galaxies in the latest spectroscopic SDSS data release, which has 75000 LRG galaxies sampling 1.1 Gpc3/h3 to z=0.47. Here we focus on detecting a local maxima shaped as a circular ring in the bidimensional galaxy correlation function ξ (σ ,π), separated in perpendicular σ and line-of-sight π distances. We find a significant de...

Luminous red galaxy clustering at z 0.7 – first results using AAOmega

We report on the AAT-AAOmega LRG Pilot observing run to establish the feasibility of a large spectroscopic survey using the new AAOmega instrument. We have selected Luminous Red Galaxies (LRGs) using single epoch SDSS riz-photometry to i < 20.5 and z < 20.2. We have observed in 3 fields including the COSMOS field and the COMBO-17 S11 field, obtaining a sample of ∼600 redshift z & 0.5 LRGs. Expo...
